Overview
Sixteen distribution system maintenance employees are responsible for the operation and maintenance of a water distribution system with over 100 miles of water mains, ranging in size from 4" to 24".
They service and maintain over 800 fire hydrants, 2600 gate valves, 9000 water service lines, two reservoirs with a combined capacity of eight (8) million gallons, and a 250,000 gallon elevated water tank.
This sub-division is also responsible for installing and replacing or repairing water service lines to properties in the city. Costs associated with installation and repair of water service lines from the city's water main to the consumer's building or structure are borne by the consumer as set forth in Chapter 301 of the Code of the City of Watertown.
