Ride Smart Safety Tips

Whether you're commuting to work, exploring the city, or simply enjoying a ride, following a few basic safety practices can help protect you and everyone around you.

  Always Wear a Helmet

A properly fitted helmet is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of serious head injuries.

Remember:

  • Wear a helmet every ride
  • Replace a helmet after any significant impact
  • Make sure the chin strap is snug and secure

As per the Watertown City Local Law, all E-Bike riders must wear a helmet.

  Be Visible

Help drivers and pedestrians see you.

Wear:

  • Bright or reflective clothing
  • Reflective gear or accessories

Equip Your E-Bike With:

  • White front light
  • Red rear light
  • Reflectors
  • Bell or audible warning device

  Obey Traffic Signals

E-Bikes are expected to follow the same basic rules of the road.

Always:

  • Stop at red lights and stop signs
  • Yield to pedestrians
  • Ride in the direction of traffic
  • Follow posted traffic signals
  • Use hand signals when turning

  E-Bike Battery Safety

Lithium-ion batteries should always be handled responsibly.

Safe Charging Tips:

  • Use the charger provided by the manufacturer
  • Charge batteries in a dry, well-ventilated area
  • Never charge a damaged battery
  • Keep batteries away from excessive heat
  • Do not leave charging batteries unattended for extended periods

If your battery becomes swollen, damaged, or overheats, discontinue use immediately and contact the manufacturer.
