Tree City USA
Every year since 2000, the City of Watertown has been named a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation. The Tree City USA award recognizes communities across the country that meet certain criteria and have exceptional community forestry programs. In order for a community to become a Tree City USA, is must meet four standards established by The National Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters. Those standards are:
The community must have a tree care ordinance
- The community must have a street tree board or department
The community must have a community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita.
The community must conduct an Arbor Day Observance and have an official proclamation.
