City of Watertown Draft Zoning Ordinance
We are planning for the City’s future!
Following the 2019 completion of the City’s first-ever Comprehensive Plan, the City’s Zoning Ordinance and Official Zoning Map are being completely updated for the first time since 1958.
As required by General Municipal Law, the zoning ordinance must be consistent with the adopted comprehensive plan. The new ordinance will be a hybrid code, which combines traditional zoning controls with form-based zoning techniques.
Over the last two years, a Steering Committee led by Elan Planning and staff from the City’s Planning and Community Development Department, has been working on updating the ordinance. This includes revisions to the use table, the official zoning map as well as individual sections within the ordinance. The goal is to bring the code up to modern standards while also making it more user friendly by reorganizing and reformatting to make it easier for citizens to look up zoning regulations.
Below you will find a link to the draft zoning ordinance, use table and zoning map.
You will also find a link to a GIS mapping application that compares the current zoning map to the proposed zoning map so you can see the changes that were made.
